Okay, Chad and I love this progressive radio station. Chad listens to it or a podcast on his commute to work. Thank you to myself for finding it two years ago as it was up and coming during the presidential elections/primaries or something like that. Anyway, I had totally planned to enter Chad in this exciting Ulitmate Back Yard Makeover contest for Father's day. It was produced by the sunday morning shows Mighty House and Gardening guys. I love listening to them on the way to church for little tips even though I have yet to use them in planting my garden.
Anyhoo, Chad's backyard did not get entered (hello, twins...five months...three year old...etc). But now I'm kind of glad. AND here is why. If you go to the link PLEASE DON'T VOTE. All of them include unfinished water features (like pools, docks, or a pond). Each of them was trying to build a deck. And all of these projects involved concrete. Can I just say right now . . . I LOVE MY HUSBAND. For not being a total idiot when it comes to home projects. Yes, he doesn't finish everything. It takes him forever to get one thing done. But he is the only one working . . . this takes up a lot of his time literally and mentally. Thank God he doesn't try to do stupid stuff at home that takes up more time and keeps him away from us.
Instead he tries to do the yard work, but then it rains, or he's just not home to do it. So today he spent a whole day working on the back yard so we could have our first cook out Thursday. He weed wacked for hours so we could see the timbers that go around the play set and mulch. Then mowed the lawn which was Shane-knee-high. Hopefully, it doesn't all grow back before Sunday so at least we can enjoy it again immediately and celebrate what a great dad he is.
I know it was eating at him, that the yard looked the way it did and that he just didn't seem to be able to get to it. But I'd much rather him 1) Take the time he is taking to work out and take care of himself (great job hunny!) 2) Come home and hold the kids and play with them 3) Not worry about the yard the same way he seems to not worry about me not getting the inside house work done.
Sure, I would still love all the free, cool, stuff for the back yard make over from the radio station. But I already have the better back yard because Chad spent the whole day working on it and then hung out with us (mostly cause he couldn't move after that--Just kidding!). And I have the bestest, smartest husband who doesn't mess up our back yard majorly (just a little bit).
